I have now encountered this a few times since coaching some athletes over here and have yet to come up with a reasonable reply so if there are any more experienced coaches (ie ones with actual coaching qualifications unlike myself) please feel free to give some advice.

A number of women frequent the gym I attend and as part of my agreement with the gym owner I am encouraged to help coach the hang clean for a cheaper membership fee and a key to train whenever I want. So with the guys everything is relatively plain sailing with the usual problems cropping up for beginner lifters which I can easily correct. With the woman I have came across a problem with a few of them that when I ask them to bring the bar closer by bringing in their hips etc they complain that as the bar then travels on up it is inclined to meet two problems i.e. their breasts. How close should the bar be or how do I get around this 'problem' as to me the bar is sitting out too far at hip stage which means when the females are trying to rack the bar it is sitting out front.

I don't think breast reduction is an option......

But seriously any advice?

George Whiteway's Reply:

That's an easy one to fix, first the girl has to stand with the toe's just under the bar, then start the pull and bring it to the position for the second pull at the top of the thighs, at this point the bar is going up in a more or less straight line, the shoulders then go up, go back, then under the bar and rest on top of the shoulders, other words the top part of the body moves in an ark. IE the bigger the breast's the bigger the ark. to help in this movement put a bar with some weights not to heavy in the racks just below the breasts,
the toes just under the bar and the hands shoulder with on the bar,
then just swing yourself in an ark under the bar and stand up, practise this movement till it becomes second nature and you'll find
it will no longer a problem having big or small breast's. IE the same aplyes to the snatch. hope this helps George...
