Hi everyone!

I'm Marian and I have been training at crossfit for almost 10 months.

Training history is 7 years at martial arts (4 at Ju-Jitsu, followed by 3 at MMA & boxing). We incorporated weight training as part of our MMA training programme.

I attended the Oly course with Coach Burgener and Casey, Sage and Nat Burgener at the weekend, working on the Snatch and C&J. Have taken away so much from it. I've gained a better understanding of the lifts, and hopefully hugely improved my skillset!

I've always been told I'm "pretty strong for a woman", now knowing how I should be drilling these lifts will help me perform better than I ever could just depending on my own brute strength!

Would love to hear from anyone who has any advice to a newbie - particularly any girls here who are into this!

I don't have one rep max on the Snatch and C&J as yet.

What I do have is a current one rep max at split jerk only of 57.5kg.
I would expect though that after the course at the weekend and with a lot of work on my technique this will quickly improve!

Welcome to the forum Marian.

Best advice is to try every so often to get good coaching. I will email you Ronnie Whiteway's (NI head coach) contact details.

Also attend some of the local competitions. As a newbie and also to this very day I always found it good to watch folk better than me perform the lifts to get a better appreciation and continual reminder of the technique and just the speed that the lifts can be performed at.

Will also email you a couple of female lifters addresses so you can contact them. One of them, Laura Nolan, also has her own blog which describes her training.

All the best with your lifting Marian. Your split jerk is actually very impressive! Though id better not argue with you in case you give me a left hook or roundhouse kick! Stick at it and get up to Ronnie and id say you will go far.
