Tracey Fober from an American Company called Iron Maven has a service where it is possible to analyze lifters technique. She was present at the 2007 Arnold Classics where she took video clips of side and front profiles of the lifters on the platform and then offered to make these available to lifters for a fee. She uses technologies such as dart fish analysis to map bar trajectories and do side by side profiles (for example of a successful and failed lift).

Using this analysis you can determine the trajectory of the bar and also the acceleration generated. I have shown what she can do below with one of my snatches:

She can also present this in the form of a graph where it can be shown that I have acceleration through the first pull phase, then the bar slows slightly during the transition into the second pull where i am able to generate some more acceleration:

Finally she can also take screen captures at various points of the lift and as can be shown on this lift by the yellow circle I have a tendency to bring my knees in during the pull which is bad technique and needs to be corrected:

Both Eamonn and I are happy with the service we received and think the price is fairly reasonable for the information you can ascertain from her clips. After corresponding with her she would be interested in expanding her business to Irish lifters who could send her video clips of themselves lifting and she will be able to provide some analysis of the clips. I have provided her details below.

To achieve the best sort of analysis she has given the followen recommendations:
1. The best thing is to be able to have .avi quality video for the best analysis.
2. A side view, with tripod works well.
3. Try to align side camera with where the barbell is initially placed on the platform (may be helpful to place tape on the platform and have loaders place bar in line with this) and to a height that is about waist height for the average person.

I got some video from Tracy and it is an excellent service.

For anyone who wished to use this, I would advise filming (at least some) of the lifts you want analyzed from a direct "side on" view. This way she can add bar trajectories, accurately.

Also, if at all possible, I would advise trying to film each lift with 2 cameras: one side on and on at a 45 degree angle from the front.

Even without filming with 2 cameras (using just 1), I think the analysis would still be worth while. I would recommend going to max to a weight you fail with. She does side by side analysis of successful lift with unsuccessful lift which really allows you to see where the technique broke down on the unsuccessful lift.

I will post a few example of the analysis I got in the next couple of days.
